Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
(SUGAR LAND, Texas) - Enmanuel Valdez was assigned to the Sugar Land Space Cowboys on Tuesday after tearing up the Texas League through the first two months of the season with Double A Corpus Christi.
Valdez led the league in batting average and ranked top five in home runs and RBI.
He continued his prolific offensive season in his Triple A debut, hitting a pair of solo home runs in a 6-4 loss to the Oklahoma City Dodgers on Tuesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Valdez homered in his first Triple A at-bat, belting a solo home run to right field in the third inning. He followed with another solo home run in the fifth, both coming off Oklahoma City starter Michael Grove.
Hunter Brown started for the Space Cowboys and struck out nine batters while allowing just one run through five innings. He leads the Pacific Coast League with 69 strikeouts and is third with a 2.39 ERA. Brown, who's rated as the No. 98 prospect in baseball, per MLBPipeline, has struck out a combined 23 batters through his last three starts (15.2 IP).
In between Valdez's home runs, Korey Lee hit his eighth home run of the season, which was a solo shot in the fifth. Lee's eight home runs are second-most of PCL catchers.
Oklahoma City went on to score five unanswered runs beginning in the seventh, culminating in a walk-off two run homer from Max Muncy, who was amidst an MLB Rehab Assignment.
Jake Meyers and Taylor Jones continued their MLB Rehab Assignments in the opener in Oklahoma City. Meyers, who led off and started in center field, went 1-for-3 and delivered a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Jones hit third and was the designated hitter in the contest.
The Space Cowboys and Dodgers continue their series at 12:05 p.m on Wednesday. Chad Donato is set to face off against Andre Jackson.
