Salt Lake Bees News Release

The Salt Lake Bees opened a three-game series with the Tacoma Rainiers Tuesday night with a 9-8 win over the Seattle Mariners affiliate. It was the 30th win of the season for the Bees as they improved to 30-25. The Rainiers dropped to 19-35 so far in 2022.

David MacKinnon went 3-for-5 with three doubles and two RBI. Kean Wong went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI and Jack Mayfield hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot in the fourth inning. Kenny Rosenberg earned the win, going five innings and giving up just one earned run (four unearned) while striking out five batters.

The teams combined for 17 runs and 11 extra base hits, including five home runs on the night.

The Bees found themselves in a 5-0 hole halfway through the second inning, giving up home runs to Justin Upton and Jarred Kelenic. They would tie things up in the bottom of the second behind a bases-clearing double from Wong and a two-run double from MacKinnon.

Mayfield broke the tie with his three-run shot in the fourth inning to make it 8-5 in favor of the home team.

Tacoma cut the lead to one with a two-run shot in the sixth, but an insurance run scored by Magneuris Sierra in the seventh put the game out of reach for the Rainiers.

The two teams will be back in action tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m.
