Today's Game: The Oklahoma City Dodgers return home for a six-game homestand and open a three-game series against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys at 7:05 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Tonight is a $2 Tuesday and also Bark in the Park presented by Sit Means Sit Dog Training. The first 300 dogs in attendance will receive a Dodgers dog bandana...The Dodgers have won three of their last four games.
Last Game: Ryan Noda and Jason Martin hit back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning to put OKC in the lead as the Oklahoma City Dodgers closed out their road series against the Round Rock Express with a 4-2 win Sunday afternoon at Dell Diamond. The Express took the game's first lead on a solo home run by former Dodger Zach Reks in the third inning. With two outs in the sixth inning, Noda hit a two-run home run off the batter's eye in center field to give OKC a 2-1 advantage. Martin followed and hit a solo home run off the roof of the equipment shed in center field for a 3-1 lead. The Dodgers added a run in the ninth inning when Andy Burns scored on a wild pitch. Round Rock scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning and brought the tying run to the plate, but Dodgers pitcher Carson Fulmer recorded a strikeout to end the game.
Today's Probable Pitchers: Michael Grove (0-0) makes his second Triple-A start with OKC tonight...He most recently pitched June 1 with the Los Angeles Dodgers against Pittsburgh. He pitched the ninth inning, allowing three runs and three hits with one intentional walk during the Dodgers' 8-4 loss. It was his second career MLB appearance and first in relief...Grove made his team and Triple-A debut May 21 in Sugar Land, six days after making his Major League debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers. In Sugar Land, he allowed two runs and four hits over 4.1 innings with a season-high five walks and three strikeouts and did not factor into the decision of OKC's 3-2 win...Grove made the jump from Double-A for a spot start with Los Angeles May 15 against Philadelphia. He pitched a 1-2-3 first inning, including his first ML strikeout, and went on to issue three walks, four hits and four unearned runs with three strikeouts over 3.2 innings at Dodger Stadium in a no decision...Grove became the first Los Angeles Dodger to make his Major League debut straight from Double-A since relief pitcher Danny Coulombe in Sept. 2014 and was the first player ever to be promoted to the Majors from Double-A over Andrew Friedman's 17 seasons as the head of baseball operations for a Major League team...Grove made five starts with Tulsa to open the season, going 0-1 with a 2.76 ERA...Grove was added to the Dodgers' 40-man roster in November and entered the 2022 season ranked as the Dodgers' No. 24 prospect by Baseball America...He was originally signed by the Dodgers in the second round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of West Virginia University even though he missed that season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. Grove was the highest-drafted player to sign with the Dodgers that year and is the first player from that draft class to reach the Majors.
Jon Duplantier (4-0) is scheduled to piggyback Grove..Duplantier is tied with Sam Gaviglio with a team-leading four wins this season and owns a 3.13 ERA over 23.0 innings of relief with 12 walks against 24 strikeouts...He most recently pitched June 2 in Round Rock and picked up the win after retiring all seven batters he faced with three strikeouts...Duplantier was selected by the Dodgers from the Giants in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 Draft Dec. 8, 2021 after he had signed with the Giants just four days prior as a minor league free agent...In 2021, he made a combined seven appearances with Arizona and Triple-A Reno before suffering a season-ending lat strain July 10 against Las Vegas...He was selected in the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft by Arizona out of Rice University...Tonight will be his fourth appearance of the season against Sugar Land, and so far he has allowed one run and one hit over 4.2 innings.
Against the Space Cowboys: 2022: 6-3 2021: 12-12 All-time: 18-15 At OKC: 10-8 The Dodgers meet Sugar Land for the third time this season and second time at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark...The Dodgers won the initial series between the teams in OKC, 4-2, April 26-May 1, closing out the series with three straight wins and outscoring the Space Cowboys overall, 39-30, at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark...The Dodgers won a short three-game road series against the Space Cowboys May 20-22 in Sugar Land, 2-1...Entering the current series, Miguel Vargas leads OKC with 12 hits in nine games against Sugar Land, including a triple and two homers, along with seven walks, four RBI and 12 runs scored. Stefen Romero has a team-best 13 RBI in six games against the Space Cowboys this season, including five doubles and two homers, as seven of his nine hits have gone for extra bases. Pitcher Ryan Pepiot is 2-0 against Sugar Land with 13 K's against three walks in 11.0 IP...The teams split their 2021 season series, 12-12. Both teams went 6-6 on their home fields as Sugar Land played its first season as a Triple-A franchise. The Dodgers won nine of the first 12 games before Sugar Land took nine of the final 12 games and six of the last seven games...The Dodgers have won five of their last six games against the Space Cowboys after they had lost 11 of the previous 15 meetings going back to last season.
Rehab Report: Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Max Muncy continued a Major League Rehab Assignment Sunday with the OKC Dodgers in Round Rock and played the full game at second base. At the plate, he went 1-for-3 with a walk. Through two games with OKC, Muncy has one hit and two walks in eight plate appearances...Muncy was placed on the 10-day Injured List May 28 with left elbow inflammation.
Dinger Details: The Dodgers hit back-to-back home runs for the second time in three games Sunday, turning a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 lead in the sixth inning when Ryan Noda and Jason Martin went deep. It was the fourth time this season - and fourth time in less than one month - the Dodgers went back-to-back. Three of their four instances of hitting back-to-back homers have been in Round Rock...Sunday marked the second time this season Noda hit the first of back-to-back homers after also doing so May 12 in Round Rock along with Andy Burns...The Dodgers have now hit six homers over the last three games.
Mighty Miguel: Miguel Vargas doubled Sunday, and he has now hit safely in seven straight games, going 8-for-29 with a homer, three doubles and six RBI. This is the third time in 2022 he's had a hitting streak of at least seven games...Vargas leads the PCL with 46 runs scored, while ranking second with 59 hits. His 31 walks are fifth-most in the league, while his 99 total bases are tied for fifth and his 34 RBI are tied for sixth...He paces the Dodgers in runs, hits and games played (52) and has started 52 of the team's last 53 games.
On the Lamb: Jake Lamb went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored Sunday, as he has reached base in 15 of his last 16 games and in 30 of his last 32 games. Over the 32-game stretch, Lamb is slashing .304/.434/.583 with nine homers, five doubles, 26 walks, 27 RBI and 23 runs scored...His 32 walks this season are tied for second-most in the league, while his 36 RBI rank fifth in the PCL and his 12 homers are tied for fifth.
Mound Matters: Five Dodgers pitchers combined to hold the Express to two runs while recording 11 strikeouts Sunday, and the Dodgers are now 17-1 this season when allowing two or fewer runs...OKC allowed 17 runs total over the previous six-game series, holding Round Rock to two runs or less three times. They limited the Express 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position Sunday and 9-for-48 (.188) across the series...The Dodgers have allowed three or fewer runs in five of the last nine games and four or fewer runs in eight of the last 10 games. During the 10-game stretch, opponents are batting .218 (70x321) and the team has a 3.41 ERA (33 ER/87.0 IP).
No Diggity, Noda: On Sunday, Ryan Noda hit his eighth home run of the season with a two-run shot out to center field. Over his last seven games, Noda is 9-for-27 with three extra-base hits, six RBI and four walks...He is tied for the team lead with 32 walks this season.
Drew Point: Drew Avans was held without a hit Sunday but drew a walk as he has now reached base safely in a season-best 11 consecutive games with a plate appearance. He has hit safely in eight of his last 10 games, going 11-for-31 (.355) with a home run, three doubles and seven walks...Since May 22, Avans has raised his season batting average by 40 points...He leads the Dodgers with 10 stolen bases this season.
Taking Offense: The Dodgers continue to lead all full-season minor league clubs with 347 runs scored and a .373 OBP. The team ranks second in OPS (.829) and fourth in hits (498), batting average (.273) and walks (272). However, over the last 11 games (since May 26), the Dodgers have slashed .239/.339/.375 with 49 runs. They have been held to two or fewer runs in five of the 11 games - including their first two shutouts of the season - and to six or fewer hits in six of 11 games, including three of the last five games.
