St. George RoadRunners News Release

ST. GEORGE, UTAH - The St. George RoadRunners provided plenty of offensive support for starter Jon Dutton on Tuesday night at Bruce Hurst Field. Tossing 119 pitches, Dutton went the distance striking out six in a convincing 11-2 victory over Na Koa Ikaika Maui.

St. George improves to 13-21 winning their second straight while Maui dropped to 21-12 and is in danger of being bumper to second place in the GBL's Southern Division.

Dutton exacted a bit of revenge after dropping a pair of decisions at Maui during Na Koa's seven-game sweep. The nine-inning effort was the first since Justin Abbott received a no-decision in an extra-inning affair last year in Long Beach.

Yosvany Almario matched a season-high with five RBI thanks to a 3-for-3 night and two walks.

The ‘Runners struck in the third inning against a former teammate, David Seccombe, who took the hill for Maui. Vic Buttler reached third after his hit was misplayed by Tim Battle in right field. Buttler scored on a Henry Calderon single off the third base glove of Michael Higa. After a walk to Almario, a three-run blast from Jermy Acey (5) pushed the RoadRunners ahead 4-0.

Maui closed within two in the next frame with a Mark Okano RBI single and Higa's RBI grounder.

STG answered right back in the home half thanks to a bit of umpire confusion. With two out, Seccombe walked Buttler and Calderon. With Almario at the plate, a high-inside pitch appeared to have hit him, but was instead ruled a foul ball. The RoadRunners capitalized on the extra chance with a double steal and a two-run single by Almario pushing the lead to 6-2.

Almario, in a near carbon copy situation in the sixth inning, singled home two more runs off Harold Williams to cap off a three-run sixth.

Two more plated in the eighth off Jerry Spradlin. Almario knocked in his final man (Calderon) with a double to right-center. Carlos Sosa beat out a double play for the final tally.

Seccombe took the loss (2-1) allowing six runs on five hits while walking five.

St. George looks for its first series sweep on Wednesday night. Raymar Diaz is expected to start on short rest. Maui will turn to LHP Jason Mackintosh who threw a shutout in Tucson in his last appearance.

First pitch is at 7:05pm with audio coverage beginning just prior with John Potter on ESPN SportsRadio 1210 and Netowrk1Sports.com.

NOTES: Almario's 5 RBIs match effort from Acey and Sosa from earlier this year - the only difference in the latter two did their feats in DH games... Game time was 2:37, shortest for a nine-inning game at Bruce Hurst Field in 2010... St. George placed LHP Brian Holliday on the inactive list with a hand injury. "Doc" will not pitch in the upcoming road trip to Chico and Yuma... It was announced that Chico's "Knuckleball Princess" Eri Yoshida will make her next start on Friday, July 2 against the RoadRunners.
