Orange County Flyers News Release

CHICO, Calif. (June 29, 2010) - Chico rookie Pascual Del Real led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a walk-off homerun to give the Outlaws a 3-2 win over the Orange County Flyers on Tuesday night. The game had been tied at two since the third inning as both team's pitching and defense kept the game close.

The Outlaws returned the favor three games after Orange County rookie David Harris knocked a walf-off homerun to beat Chico in Orange County on Saturday, June 26.

The Flyers struck first on a Manny Ayala sacrifice fly RBI to cash Sergio Pedroza in the second inning. In the third, Orange County strung together consecutive singles from Jimmy Rohan, Keith Ginter and an RBI base hit from Pedroza for an early 2-0 lead.

Chico answered in the bottom of the third with two outs as a Mike Rose bloop single landed between Flyers in shallow left field to score Mitch Einertson and Bobby Hill tying the game, 2-2.

The defense for both teams came up with plays to limit offensive chances. Outlaws centerfielder Mitch Einertson made a pair of warning track catches to rob Orange County of extra base hits in the fifth inning. In the sixth, Flyers third baseman Jimmy Rohan fielded a Del Real drag bunt bare-handed and made the throw to first in time to beat the runner, keeping Chico off the base paths in the inning. In the seventh inning, Tyler Keeble bounced back from an error that could have resulted in a double play but instead left runners on the corners with one out. One batter later, Keeble helped turn a 4-6-3 twin-killing to end the inning.

Ayala, the Flyers starting pitcher, finished the night giving up two runs on eight hits in six innings of work while striking out four and walking one. Mike Koons tossed a scoreless seventh and 1-2-3 eighth inning in relief. Bryan Harris took the loss to fall to 3-5 on the year.

Outlaws starter Kris Honel did not factor into the decision, tossing 7 1/3 innings giving up two runs on eight hits before deferring to reliever Justin Segal. Segal (2-0) threw 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the win.

Orange County and Chico continue finish this three-game series on Wednesday at Nettleton Stadium at 6:35pm. The Flyers begin a 20-game home stand on Friday against first place Maui on Friday, July 2.
