Victoria, BC - The Victoria Seals are proud to announce that Isaac Hess (LHP) will return to the team in time for a start during this week's series against Tijuana. The former Baseball America Top Prospect and 2009 Victoria Seal returns to Canada following a stint in the AAA Mexican League.
"Bringing Isaac back to Victoria is a really positive move for our organization," said Seals President Darren Parker. "He is a marquee player at this level, and can really bolster our pitching staff as we head towards the second half of the season."
Bouncing back from hip replacement surgery at the age of 19, the Phoenix, Arizona native posted some incredible numbers in 2009, including a 9-2 record over the course of 16 starts in a Seals uniform, finishing with a 3.86 earned runs average and a league-high 90 strikeouts.
Hess was also one of five Victoria players selected to appear in the 2009 Golden Baseball League All-Star game, parlaying a perfect two innings on the mound for the North Division team into a contract with the Boston Red Sox.
"Isaac is someone I've heard a lot about over the past few seasons," said Seals Field Manager Kip Gross. "I'm really looking forward to seeing what he brings to the table, and what he can add to our starting rotation."
Released by Boston over concerns about his artificial hip, Hess was traded to Calgary near the end of last season and went on to post a pair of post-season victories, helping the Vipers claim the 2009 Golden Baseball League Championship.
Starting the 2010 campaign in Mexico, Hess played a total of 17 games with the Diablos Rojos del Mexico, earning a 3-1 record while collecting 21 strikeouts and a 3.66 earned runs average. The left-hander was then traded to the Guerreros de Oaxaca where he appeared in just seven games prior to his release.
The Seals are back on home turf for Fireworks Night at Royal Athletic Park tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. (PT)! The club will then return for a Canada Day matinee on July 1 against the Tijuana Cimarrones.
