Chico Outlaws News Release
(Chico, CA. June 29th, 2010) Outlaws rookie shortstop Pascual Del Real smashed a game-winning solo shot over the left-center field fence to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Outlaws a 3-2 victory over the Orange County Flyers in walk-off fashion on Tuesday at Nettleton Stadium in Chico.
With the game tied at 2-2 heading into the home half of the ninth, Flyer's manager Paul Abbott brought in reliever Bryan Harris, the third Orange County pitcher of the night. Del Real crushed a Harris fastball over the scoreboard in left center to secure the Outlaws' 25th win of the season.
The win for Chico also kept the Outlaws streak of not losing on consecutive days all year long intact.
Kris Honel, at 6-0 the winningest pitcher in the GBL so far this season, started for the Outlaws and battled through early jams, allowing two earned runs on eight hits over seven and a third innings.
Manny Ayala started for Orange County and pitched well, going six innings, allowing just two earned runs on eight hits and striking out five, but got a no-decision.
Orange County plated one run in the second on an Ayala sac fly to right field, scoring Sergio Pedroza who had earlier singled.
One more run came in for the Flyers in the third inning on a Pedroza RBI single to cash in Jimmy Rohan, who singled to lead off the inning off Honel.
The Outlaws plated two runs to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the third. Center fielder Mitch Einertson hit a one-out double and then Bobby Hill drew a walk to put runners on first and second. Two batters later, catcher Mike Rose hit a bloop single to left field, scoring both Einertson and Hill. The RBI's were numbers 15 and 16 on the year for Rose.
Honel got better as the night went on, not allowing another hit after a Steve Boggs single with two outs in the fourth. Justin Segal (2-0) came in the game in the seventh with one out after Honel walked Pedroza. Segal earned the win in an inning and two-thirds of work as the pitcher of record when Del Real hit the game-winning homerun.
With the win, Chico improved to 25-9 on the year, while Orange County dropped to 14-18.
The rubber match of the series between the Outlaws and Flyers will go Wednesday night at 6:35 pm at the Nett. Rightie Garret Holleran starts opposite rightie Kevin Altman for the Flyers.
