Florence Y'alls
Florence, Kentucky: The Freedom came back to Champion Window Field after a dismal winless six game roadtrip in Windy City and Rockford. Freedom hurler Nick Dunning got the call for Florence against division leading Washington, and he didn't disappoint.
The Freedom got the scoring started in the second when Tim Grogan smashed his second homerun of the season to right field, making it a 1-0 ballgame. The flood gates were opened in the fourth, it started off with a Josh Lex RBI single. Joe Holland then doubled with the bases loaded, clearing the bases for three RBI. Eddie Gonzalez followed him up with a triple, driving in Holland, and after four, it was a 7-0 ballgame. Florence played add-on in the seventh, Eddie singled with the bases loaded, driving in one run. Tyler Evans then singled in a run, and the four run inning was capped off with a Reggie Watson RBI single. Florence tacked one more on in the eighth, Tim Grogan doubled in Beau Blacken. Washington scored two in the ninth, but the Freedom win it 12-2.
Nick Dunning (1-0 1.75 ERA) was superb. He took a no-hitter into the fifth, and had a shutout with two outs in the ninth. He went eight and two/thirds, giving up just two runs on two hits, striking out seven. He was the workhorse manager Jaime Keefe needed, Dunning threw a total of 135 pitches.
The offense was rolling all through the game last night. Greg Stone went 1-5 with one RBI. Reggie Watson went 2-5 with an RBI. Beau Blacken went 2-4 with a double and two runs scored. Josh Lex went 1-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Tim Grogan had a big night, he went 2-3 with a double, homerun, two RBI, and three runs scored. Joe Holland went 1-3 but made his one hit count, he drove in three and scored two times. Eddie Gonzalez had another big night at home, he went 2-5 with a triple, two RBI, and two runs scored. Shortstop Tyler Evans went 2-4 with an RBI and a stolen base.
The final game of a short two-game series is tonight at Champion Window Field, first pitch scheduled for 7:05. Jason Bowlin will head to the mound for Florence. After tonight's game, the Freedom will welcome in Chillicothe for the remainder of the four-game homestand.
