DUNEDIN, FL. - The Dunedin Blue Jays defeated the Daytona Tortugas by the final score of 12-4 on Friday night to earn the organization's 2,500th total win in franchise history.
Dunedin came into the 2019 season with a combined regular and post-season record of 2,439-2,217 and needed just 47 wins to reach the 2,500 wins plateau. Since the inception of the franchise in 1979, the Blue Jays have compiled 20 winning seasons-including 10 of the last 12 seasons, 15 half division titles, 16 playoff appearances, and the organization's first Florida State League Championship in 2017. The franchise dissolved for a brief eight year period before resuming play as a member of the Florida State League for a second time and an affiliate club in the Toronto Blue Jays farm system.
Following their victory tonight, the Blue Jays need just 14 more wins to reach 2,500 total wins in regular season play. Dunedin has now registered a Florida State League best 47 wins and are holders of the best Winning Percentage in the entire Toronto Blue Jays system. The Blue Jays are back in action tomorrow evening in Daytona Beach, FL to take on the Tortugas in game two of the three game series at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. The first pitch is set to be thrown at 7:05 P.M.
