Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Royce Lewis smashed his sixth home run of the season, but the Fort Myers Miracle were swept in a doubleheader by the Bradenton Marauders on Saturday afternoon at Hammond Stadium. The Miracle dropped game one, 5-2 in eight innings, before falling in the nightcap, 4-1.
Jordan Balazovic started the nightcap for the Miracle and suffered the loss after yielding three runs in four innings. Balazovic (4-2) tied a career-high with four walks.
Trailing 3-0 in the fourth, Miracle third baseman Andrew Bechtold trimmed the deficit to 3-1 with his first High-A RBI.
Bradenton tacked on a run in the sixth. The Marauders went 4-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
In the first game, Lewis' home run, over the leaping try of Travis Swaggerty in center, put the Miracle up 1-0 in the first.
Down 2-1 in the seventh, the Miracle forced extra innings on a fielding error by Bradenton first baseman Raul Hernandez.
Bradenton broke the tie in the eighth with a three run frame.
Cody Allen, who was signed by the Minnesota Twins earlier this month after being released by the Angels, tossed a 1-2-3 seventh.
The Miracle will try to avoid the sweep on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
