FRIDAY NIGHT VICTORY: Dunedin defeated the Lakeland Flying Tigers by the final score of 4-0 in game two of the four game weekend series. The Blue Jays struck first in the top of the first when Chavez Young doubled with two outs and came around to score on Demi Orimoloye's two-run homerun to make it 2-0 Dunedin. RHP Maximo Castillo started for the D-Jays and held Lakeland without a hit in the first 3.1 innings of his outing. In total, Castillo threw 5.2 innings of scoreless baseball to pick up his fifth win of the year. Righty Mike Ellenbest came on in relief and tossed 3.1 scoreless frames to notch his first save of the year. Chavez Young and Nick Podkul added to the Dunedin runs column with RBIs in the fifth and seventh innings.
TODAY'S GAME: The Blue Jays take on the Lakeland Flying Tigers in games three and four in a doubleheader to complete the weekend series. It's the ninth and 10th of 13 matchups between the two clubs in 2019. Tonight's game marks the third and fourth in an eight game road trip that will conclude next Thursday in Tampa against the Tarpons at Steinbrenner Field. Following last night's win, the D-Jays have won a season best eight straight games and have the most wins (26) in the league since May 28th. Additionally, the D-Jays seek their third consecutive series win and their fifth in their last six arrays dating back to June 7th.
AGAINST LAKELAND: Dunedin and Lakeland match up at Joker Marchant Stadium for the ninth and 10th of 13 matchups between the clubs this season. Dunedin has won three straight, and six of the last eight contests completed between the teams in 2019. Dunedin holds the season series lead at 6-2 following their victory last night and have outscored Lakeland 30-4 in the last three games and has held Lakeland off the scoreboard in 17 of the 18 innings played in the first two games this weekend. Following the ending of this series, the two teams will match up and a three game series beginning on July 16th at Jack Russell Memorial Stadium in Clearwater.
VIEW FROM THE TOP: Dunedin comes in having won a season high eight straight, nine of 11, 17 of 21, and 30 of their last 39 dating back to May 22nd. The Blue Jays also possess the most wins in the league since May 28th, and contain the best record (54-28) and Winning Percentage (.659) in the Florida State League coming into play tonight. Additionally, when the Blue Jays woke up this morning, they are holders of the best Winning Percentage up and down the entire Toronto organization at .654 and the second best in all of Advanced-A professional baseball trailing only Down East from the Carolina League. During this winning streak, the Blue Jays have climbed back into first place in the FSL North Division standings and have now spent a franchise record 84 of the 95 days in the 2019 schedule in first place in their respective division. This month marks the first time since May of 2016, the D-Jays hold the league's best record at any point in the season.
