Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
TAMPA, FL. - Dunedin continued their success in 2019 against Tampa with the 4-3 victory at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Monday night in game one of a four game set.
RHP Jason Adam made the start for Dunedin and pitched two scoreless after being added to the roster from Triple-A Buffalo prior to the game. In the top of the third, Kevin Vicuna scored the first run of the game on Steven Sensley's error at first. Tampa tied the game in the bottom of the frame when Turner Larkins walked Pablo Olivares with the bases loaded to score David Metzgar.
In the bottom of the fourth, the struggles for Larkins continued. Diego Castillo and Leonardo Molina singled to put two aboard. Larkins induced a fly-out and ground-out of the next two hitters but was unable to avoid further damage as Pablo Olivares smacked a two run single to right to give Tampa the 3-1 lead.
The bullpen combination of RHPs Graham Spraker, Emerson Jimenez, Jackson Rees, and Brad Wilson held Tampa scoreless the rest of the way through as the Blue Jays chipped away on offense. In the top of the seventh, Norberto Obeso doubled in Chavez Young with one out and came around to score when Jesus Navarro smacked a triple to right to deadlock the game at three apiece.
Tampa's best chance to win the game came in the bottom of the ninth. Omar Carrizales drilled a double to right-center to put a runner at second with no out. The next hitter David Metzgar grounded one slowly to short for Kevin Vicuna who fielded and threw out Carrizales at third and nail the lead runner and take the air out of the Tarpons rally.
Jesus Navarro came through again and drove in Samad Taylor from third with a RBI sacrifice fly in the 10th to give the D-Jays their first lead since the third. RHP Brad Wilson struck out the side in the bottom of the frame to notch the save and give Dunedin their franchise record 10th straight win.
Dunedin now sits at 4-0 on this road trip and seeks their 11th consecutive win tomorrow evening at Steinbrenner Field. LHP Nick Allgeyer (6-3, 3.10) gets the ball for Dunedin and RHP Shawn Semple (1-2, 3.57) tosses for the Tarpons. The first pitch is set for 6:30 ET. The game broadcast can be heard across the Dunedin Blue Jays Baseball Network powered by TuneIn. The broadcast begins at 6:15 ET.
