Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
DAYTONA BEACH, FL. - Despite Samad Taylor's three hit night, the Blue Jays second baseman was stranded at third in the ninth representing the tying run as Dunedin fell 8-7 in a sloppy game in Daytona Beach.
Daytona took the early lead on a Kevin Vicuna throwing error allowing Lorenzo Cedrola to score from second. The bats woke up for Dunedin in the bottom of the fifth as the D-Jays batted around for the fifth time this season, sending 10 men to the plate, and scoring six runs. Demi Orimolyoe and Norberto Obesso both reached base via singles to put two runners aboard. Samad Taylor then hammered a single back up the middle into center allowing Orimoloye to score. A Kevin Vicuna walk knocked RHP Michael Byrne out of his start. Cal Stevenson drew a bases loaded walk against new RHP Aneurys Zabala. The next hitter Cal Stevenson provided the big blow with a bases clearing double to give the Blue Jays the 6-1 lead after five.
Daytona stormed back with three runs in the sixth and seventh innings and take a 7-6 lead on the six unanswered runs outburst. Cal Stevenson led off the bottom of the seventh with an opposite field homerun off of RHP Mac Sceroler to tie the game at seven all. In the top of the ninth, Daytona took the lead for good, sending seven men to the plate and scoring the go-ahead run on the RBI single off the bat of Jose Garcia in the top of the ninth.
The Blue Jays failed to score in the bottom of the frame when Samad Taylor was stranded at third sending the Blue Jays to their ninth loss of the year. RHP Justin Dillon started and pitched 5.2 innings, striking out seven and scattering four hits. The Blue Jays' lead in the FSL North Division standings has been trimmed to 2.5 games over second place Daytona and Dunedin is now 1-4 in one run games.
The second game of the three game series takes place tomorrow at Jackie Robinson Ballpark as an official home game for the Blue Jays. RHP Nate Pearson (3-0, 0.95) gets the ball for Dunedin against LHP Reiver Sanmartin (1-1, 3.76) for Daytona. The first pitch is set to be thrown at 7:05 E.T. All the action can be heard on the Dunedin Blue Jays Baseball Network through the TuneIn Radio App. The Broadcast will begin at 6:40 E.T.
