Dunedin Drops the Opening Game of the Series to St. Lucie

ST. LUCIE, FL. - The St. Lucie Mets defeated the Dunedin Blue Jays by the final of 4-2 in game one of a three game series.

RHP Tony Dibrell was solid in his second consecutive start, tossing six innings giving up just one earned run. The Mets scored first in the bottom of the third when Blake Tiberi smacked an RBI double to the right field corner to score Manny Rodriguez. Jacob Zanon pushed a single through the hole on the right side into right to score Tiberi to make it 2-0 St. Lucie.

Samad Taylor's RBI double cut the Mets lead to 2-1 in the top of the fourth. In the bottom of the sixth, Jacob Zanon singled to center to start the rally for the Mets. Carlos Cortes looped a double down the right-field line to put runners at second and third with nobody out. Jeremy Vasquez hammered a single to center to score Zanon. The next hitter Cody Bohanek grounded one to second for Samad Taylor who threw out the runner Cortes at the plate trying to score from third. Mitch Ghelfi struck out swinging for out number two. Matt Winaker was issued a walk to load the bases and that knocked RHP Maximo Castillo out of his start. Righty Emerson Jimenez came on in relief and uncorked a wild pitch allowing Vasquez to score to improve the Mets lead to 4-1.

Down 4-1, Dunedin loaded the bases loaded in the eighth but failed to score. RHP Joe Cavallaro notched his third save of the season with a scoreless ninth. Game two of the series takes place tomorrow evening at First Data Field at 6:30. RHP Joey Murray (3-1, 1.74) starts for Dunedin and LHP Kevin Smith (4-5, 3.73) gets the ball for the Mets.
