DUNEDIN, FL - Anthony Alford led the charge offensively with a three-hit performance, but the Dunedin Blue Jays (53-66) fell to the Clearwater Threshers (68-53) in the series opener by a 6-3 final.

Conor Fisk made the start for the D-Jays Monday night striking out six hitters. The Wisconsin native allowed three runs in the second inning, but shut the Threshers down over the remainder of his outing. Fisk struck out the side in the third and proceeded to retire the final 11 batters he faced, but suffered the tough-luck loss.

Clearwater scored three times in the second with the help of Rhys Hoskins' sixth homer of the season. The Threshers also scored a single tally in each the seventh, eighth and ninth innings.

Dunedin plated three-runs in the eighth to cut the Clearwater lead to 5-3 at the time. Derrick Loveless singled and L.B. Dantzler walked, paving the way for a Matt Dean double, scoring Loveless. A batter later, Andy Fermin doubled to left scoring Dantzler and Dean.

The D-Jays threatened to score again in the ninth. Alford and Loveless drew back-to-back two-out walks and Dantzler pushed the pair up a base when he was hit by a pitch. Miguel Nunez was able to record the final out, though, locking down his sixth save.

Alford reached base four times for Dunedin in the series opener. The centerfielder was issued a free pass after his three base hits. He is hitting .301 on the year.

Ricardo Pinto earned the win for the Threshers improving to 7-2 on the year and Miguel Nunez locked down his sixth save.

The D-Jays and Threshers will do it again tomorrow, Tuesday, August 18th at 6:30PM. Dunedin has yet to announce a starter; Matt Imhof will get the nod for Clearwater.
