Clearwater Threshers News Release
DUNEDIN, Fla. - Aaron Brown and Rhys Hoskins each went deep on Tuesday night, leading the Clearwater Threshers in a 9-4 victory over the Dunedin Blue Jays at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium.
The Threshers (32-20) pounded out 14 hits and racked up 11 strikeouts in the win, as Clearwater went up two games to one in the four-game set.
After Dunedin (21-29) jumped in front with two runs off Matt Imhof in the first, Clearwater quickly bounded back.
With two men in scoring position and one down in the second, Mitch Walding sent a bouncer to the right of the second base bag for an infield single, scoring Brown to cut the deficit in half.
An inning later, Dylan Cozens drew a one-out walk against Alonzo Gonzalez (2-5), and Hoskins drilled a double to the right-centerfield gap to tie the game. Hoskins would later score the go-ahead on a Willians Astudillo sacrifice fly.
Brown followed that up by unloading his 10th home run of the season, a solo shot to right that made it 4-2 Threshers.
Imhof meanwhile settled in to hold Dunedin off the board through his last four innings. In total, Imhof (7-4) permitted two runs on five hits and two walks, striking out six batters in his five frames.
Clearwater continued to tack on, bringing home a run in the fifth on an Astudillo RBI double, and another in the sixth on a Jesmuel Valentin run-scoring grounder to increase the advantage to 6-2.
Alberto Tirado worked three scoreless in relief, dancing around four walks but not allowing a hit. He racked up three strikeouts in his first appearance against his former team.
Hoskins put the exclamation point on the offense, blasting a no-doubt, three-run home run off reliever Colton Turner in the ninth. It was Hoskins' second long ball in as many days, and his 16th total between Lakewood and Clearwater.
The Threshers will wrap up the series at Dunedin on Wednesday, with Mark Leiter Jr. (4-1) on the hill against Derek Blacksher (0-0) at 6:30 p.m. The call can be heard live on the Threshers Broadcast Network starting at 6:15 p.m.
