(Trenton, NJ) July 13, 2014 - Trenton's Jaron Long worked into the seventh inning in his first Double-A start on Sunday, and led the Thunder to a 5-1 win over the Akron RubberDucks at Arm and Hammer Park.

Long, who played his college baseball at Ohio State, held the RubberDucks (55-41) scoreless through the first six innings.

After recording an out to start the seventh, he gave up three hits and a bases-loaded walk before being lifted in favor of closer Jose Pazos. Long (2-0) scattered six hits, walked one and struck out six. He earned a relief win in his Double-A debut on July 8th against Reading, and found similar success on Sunday in his initial AA starting assignment.

Long's effort stopped Akron's four-game winning streak. The RubberDucks dropped to a half-game out of first pending the outcome of Richmond's Sunday night game at Bowie. The RubberDucks are 5-2 on the current road trip with the finale scheduled for Monday at 12:05 p.m.

The Thunder (44-52) struck for three runs in the second inning against Akron starter Duke von Schamann. Ali Castillo slapped an RBI single, and center fielder Mason Williams clubbed a two-run double to right field to take a 3-0 lead. They extended the lead to 5-0, with runs in the fifth and seventh.

It was a tough day for von Schamann (3-5), who lost his fifth straight decision, and fourth consecutive start. The Thunder kept the pressure on all day, collecting 10 hits. On a sweltering day with high humidity, von Schamann battled through seven innings to save a thin Akron bullpen. He walked only one and fanned two. Von Schamann's last win was a 10-2 victory over Binghamton on June 9th, when he tossed one of his best games of the season.

Pazos worked the final 2 2/3 innings to pick up his fourth save for Trenton.

Akron pulled to within 4-1 in the seventh inning. Ronny Rodriguez drew a bases-loaded walk to force in Akron's only run of the day. With the bases loaded and one out, Pazos entered the game and struck out Jordan Smith for the second out, and then Rodriguez was promptly picked off first by catcher Francisco Arcia to end the inning.

The RubberDucks and Thunder will play the final game of the series on Monday afternoon at 12:05. RHP Joe Colon (8-4, 2.56) is scheduled to start for Akron, while the Thunder have tabbed LHP Matt Tracy (8-2, 3.28). The game will be broadcast on WARF 1350 AM and www.AkronRubberDucks.com.

The Akron RubberDucks are the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. The 2014 season is the 18th since moving to Canal Park and the first as the RubberDucks.
