Baysox Have Trouble Finding Runs

Bowie, Md. - Despite outhitting the Flying Squirrels Sunday evening, the Baysox found runs hard to come by in a 7-2 loss to Richmond. The Baysox grounded into three double plays despite picking up 10 hits to nine for Richmond.

Richmond struck first in the top of the second inning against Baysox starter Jake Pettit. Mario Lisson hit a lead off double to left field and Devin Harris followed with a home run to center field to give the Flying Squirrels a 2-0 lead.

Sammie Starr got one run back for the Baysox in the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run to left field against Richmond starter Kyle Crick. It was Starr's first career Double-A hit.

David Adams tied the game for the Baysox 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo home run to left field to lead off the inning.

The Flying Squirrels came right back to retake the lead in the top of the sixth inning. Matt Duffy hit a two-out single to right field and Lisson followed with a home run to left-center field to give Richmond a 4-2 lead.

Richmond extended its lead in the top of the seventh inning. Myles Schroder drew a lead off walk and moved to second base on a groundout before Marcel Prado replaced Pettit on the mound. Eliezer Zambrano then plated Schroder with a single to center field and he moved to second on the play after a fielding error. Zambrano moved to third base on a wild pitch and scored on a Skyler Stromsmoe single to right field to give the Flying Squirrels a 6-2 lead.

The Flying Squirrels kept the runs coming in the top of the eighth inning. Kelby Tomlinson drew a lead off walk, stole second base and scored on a Duffy double to right field to put Richmond ahead 7-2.

Pettit pitched six and one-third innings and allowed five runs on five hits while walking three and striking out two in the loss. Prado pitched one and two-thirds innings and allowed two runs on three hits while striking out one and walking one. Reliever Matt Bischoff pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Baysox, allowing one hit.

Crick pitched six innings and allowed two runs on nine hits while striking out six and walking one in the win.

Baltimore Orioles RHP Bud Norris takes the mound for the Baysox Monday as the team plays the final game in a four-game home series with the Richmond Flying Squirrels. He will be opposed by LHP Adalberto Mejia (4-6, 5.90).

The Baysox are home through Monday, July 14 for a four game homestand against the Richmond Flying Squirrels that concludes with an 11:05 a.m. day game. The team will then rest during the All-Star break for two days and return to action in Altoona Thursday, July 17.
