Long Island Ducks News Release

(Bridgewater N.J., June 26, 2012) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 8-3 on Tuesday night in the second game of a three-game series at TD Bank Ballpark.

The Ducks opened the scoring with a run in the first and two more in the fourth off Patriots starter Mike MacDonald. A RBI single by Brandon Sing and a two-run double by Shawn Williams highlighted the scoring. Somerset closed the gap to 3-2 in their half of the fourth on a RBI single by Jeff Nettles and a run-scoring double play ball against Ducks starter Dan Meyer.

It stayed that way until the seventh when the Ducks extended their lead to three on a RBI triple by Mitch Canham and a RBI single from Dan Lyons. The Pats added a run in their half of the frame, but a mammoth three-run homer by Reid Gorecki in the eighth, his third longball of the season, put the game out of reach.

Meyer (2-4) earned the win, allowing just two runs on two hits while striking out three in six innings of work. MacDonald (2-4) took the loss, surrendering three runs on seven hits in six innings.

Gorecki led the Flock with three hits, three RBI and two runs scored. Williams and Ray Navarrete added two hits apiece, with Williams driving in two runs.

The Ducks wrap up their series against the Patriots and their nine-game road trip on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from TD Bank Ballpark.
