
Bluefish Lose Late

(Bridgeport, Conn. - June 26, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (24-34) suffered a third straight loss as the home team was defeated by the York Revolution (31-27) by a score of 7-4 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Tuesday. Bridgeport remains one win shy of 1,000 victories in franchise history.
With the Bluefish ahead 4-3 going into the ninth, the Revolution batted around. Travis Scott had an RBI single to leftcenter to tie the score off Jorge Julio (0-1). After the bases had been loaded, a balk led to the eventual winning run coming to the plate. It was followed by a two-run single to center by Salvador Paniagua to close the scoring. Paniagua drove in four on the night and had three hits along with Michael Hernandez, Brandon Haveman and Scott.
Brock Peterson came up with his first homer in nearly three weeks as he served a two-run blast to left in the sixth with the Bluefish trailing by two at the time. Luis Lopez reached base twice while Sergio Miranda made his Bridgeport debut and picked up his first Bluefish hit in the fifth. The second baseman reached base twice on the night while Edgardo Baez picked up his first Bridgeport hit in the fifth and finished the night with two singles.
Bridgeport starter, Gilbert De La Vara lasted six innings and gave up three runs on seven hits and four walks while fanning four. The southpaw did not factor in the decision. Jesse English provided two scoreless frames on four hits and two strikeouts in relief before Julio entered. The Bluefish closer surrendered four runs on five hits and a walk while retiring two hitters and taking the loss. Rommie Lewis recorded the final out in the ninth and allowed a hit.
Ricardo Gomez recorded his first save of the year after striking out the side in the ninth. Even though Adam Thomas (3-2) gave up a run in the eighth, the reliever picked up the victory as the righthander allowed an unearned run on one walk. York starter, Omar Javier, completed five innings while Bridgeport produced one run, three hits, and a walk while fanning two. Two other relievers combined for two innings of two-run, two hit, ne walk, and two strikeout baseball.
The Bluefish finish a three-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard against the York Revolution. First pitch on Wednesday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The gates open one hour before first pitch. It is Bark in the Park Night presented by Canine Company. Bridgeport will send lefthanded pitcher, Mike Tarsi (0-0, 1.86 ERA), to the hill against lefthanded hurler Chris Cody (4-6, 4.38 ERA).
