
Edgardo Baez Inks with 'Fish

(Bridgeport, Conn. - June 26, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of outfielder Edgardo Baez. Baez joins the Bluefish during his ninth season of professional baseball. Before making his way over to the Park City, the outfielder split time this season with Double-A Bowie of the Baltimore Orioles organization and Reynosa of the Mexican League. He appeared in 18 combined games and recorded a .200 in 65 at-bats.
"Edgardo is a talented young player with many tools," says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. "He will be an important addition to our core of outfielders."
The 26-year-old was originally drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 4th round of the 2003 amateur draft. He has made it up to the Double-A level during his minor league career and his best professional season came in 2008 when he split time between Single-A Potomac and Double-A Harrisburg of the Nationals organization. In 129 combined games, the Puerto Rico native batted .270 and set career-highs with 14 homes runs, 31 doubles, 65 RBI, and 68 runs scored. Over the course of 2,750 minor league at-bats, Baez owns a .251 batting average with 71 home runs, 366 RBI, 346 runs scored, and 53 stolen bases.
In a corresponding roster move, the Bluefish have placed catcher Norberto Susini on the Inactive List.
