Ducks Slide Past SeaWolves on Saturday

The SeaWolves dropped their second straight game to the Akron RubberDucks, falling on Saturday night 8-5.

Erie took an early lead in the top of the first inning when Riley Greene and Ryan Kreidler connected on back-to-back home runs to start the game for a 2-0 lead. It was the sixth home run of the season for both.

SeaWolves starter Mark Leiter Jr started the game retiring the first six batters he faced before running into trouble in the third. Chris Roller singled and was doubled home by Will Benson. Benson scored on a two-out Richie Palacios double, tying the game. Alex Call doubled home Palacios for a 3-2 Akron lead.

The Ducks added to their lead in the fifth. Jose Fermin led off with a bunt single and moved to third on a Tyler Freeman double. Palacios walked to load the bases, spelling the end of the night for Leiter. Erie summoned Joe Navilhon who allowed all three inherited runners to score on a Call sacrifice fly, wild pitch and Trenton Brooks base hit for a 6-2 Akron edge.

Erie closed the gap in the sixth. Kreidler walked and moved to third on a Kerry Carpenter base hit. He scored on a Drew Ward groundout making it 6-3. Andre Lipcius brought home Carpenter on a sacrifice fly for the 'Wolves second run of the inning. Later in the frame, John Valente singled home Josh Lester to make it a one-run game, however, Erie would get no closer.

Akron plated a pair of runs in the seventh off of reliever Max Green and would keep Erie off the scoreboard the remainder of the game.

Hillman (3-1) earned the win allowing four runs on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts in 5.1 innings.

Leiter (1-2) took the loss allowing six runs on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts in four-plus innings.

Nick Mikolajchak earned his fourth save hurling the final 1.2 innings.
