Ducks Outlast Patriots 8-7

Bridgewater, NJ- An RBI single by Lew Ford in the top of the 12th inning broke a 6-6 tie to give the Long Island Ducks an 8-7 victory over the Somerset Patriots at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday afternoon.

Matt Padgett added an RBI groundout to bring home Javier Colina for the second run of the 12th inning.

Long Island got on the board first in the top of the second inning. A bases loaded walk to Dan Lyons and a three run triple by Kennard Jones gave the Ducks a 4-0 advantage heading into the bottom half of the inning.

Somerset answered with four in the bottom of the frame to tie up the game. Two runs came across on a single by Norris Hopper and both Joe Burke and Fernando Cortez had RBI singles to make the score 4-4.

The Patriots took the lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Elliott Ayala to put Somerset on top 5-4.

The Ducks responded with two runs in the top of the fifth to regain the lead. An RBI double by Ford scored both Ray Navarrete and Colina and gave Long Island the 6-5 advantage.

Somerset evened the score at six in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single by Justin Huber.

The Patriots added a run in the bottom of the 12th on an RBI single by Matt Hagen for the 8-7 final.

Long Island reliever Bubbie Buzachero (6-2) got the win after pitching two scoreless innings. Patriots reliever Casey Cahill (1-1) suffered the loss, surrendering two runs in two innings pitched. Valer De Los Santos picked up his second save of the season.

The 2011 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Friday night when the Patriots take on the Long Island Ducks at 7:05 pm.
