York Revolution News Release
The Lancaster Barnstormers defeated the York Revolution 4-3 on Thursday night in front of 3,178 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium. With the victory, Lancaster now takes over first place in the Freedom Division with a half a game lead over the Revolution. The Barnstormers have increased their lead in the "War of the Roses" series to 8-6. The final game of the series will be played at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night.
The Barnstormers struck first in the top of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. With 2B Gilberto Mejia on third base, he was driven in on a groundball single by 1B Tommy Everidge for the game's first run.
Lancaster increased their lead the following inning with Mejia belting a single to right field bringing DH Brandon Jones across the plate giving them a 2-0 advantage.
For the third consecutive inning the Barnstormers put runs on the board making it a 4-0 game in the fifth. A wild pitch from York reliever Jack Spradlin brought home Everidge for the first run while an RBI single by SS Iggy Suarez plated the other.
York finally answered in the bottom of the fifth cutting their deficit to 4-3. 3B Vince Harrison led off the inning with his second single of the game and proceeded to score all the way from first as SS Liu Rodriguez lined a double to the wall in right-center. After a single by C Octavio Martinez moved Rodriguez to third, a ground ball by CF Chris Walker eluded Mejia to score Rodriguez on the error. A sacrifice bunt by RF Carlos Guzman moved the runners to second and third, and an RBI groundout from 2B Ramon Castro brought in Martinez to score the third run of the inning for the Revs.
Barnstormers starter J.D. Durbin retired 11 of the final 12 batters he faced, however, and the Revs never found the equalizer. Durbin earned the win (6-2), going a season-high 7.2 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) and striking out five. Closer Jonah Bayliss pitched a perfect ninth for his eleventh save in as many chances.
York starter Dumas Garcia took the loss (0-1) in his first start with the team despite allowing just two runs in 3.2 innings.
The series finale will be played Friday night at 6:30 with York starter Shaun Garceau (2-5, 5.63) taking the mound against Lancaster lefty John Halama (4-3, 6.32) on Scout Night at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The game also features an appearance and fourth inning race by the Washington Nationals Racing Presidents. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
Notes: Shanks extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a single in the second inning. Harrison picked up his 100th hit of the season with a single in the second making it his fourth straight season he's gone over the century mark in hits. Everidge is now on an eight-game hitting streak for Lancaster.
