Somerset Patriots News Release
The Five-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots will honor former New York Yankees great and New York Mets manager Willie Randolph before the Saturday, April 28th game at TD Bank Ballpark.
Randolph will receive the Somerset Patriots Outstanding Community Service Award for his work through the Willie Randolph Foundation, which supports programs and initiatives for improving athletic opportunities for boys and girls in the New York and New Jersey area. With the objective of inspiring and providing positive leadership to inner-city children and young adults, the Foundation places special emphasis on supporting youth baseball programs and improving playing facilities.
Randolph, a Bergen County, NJ resident, will be presented the award before the game and throw out a ceremonial first pitch.
Randolph, a teammate of Patriots manger Sparky Lyle with the Yankees championship teams in the 1970's, followed his 18-year playing career with 11 years as a coach for the Yankees that included four World Series Championships.
