
Ducks Fly Past Patriots 7-5

Bridgewater, NJ - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 7-5 at TD Bank Ballpark on Monday evening.
The Ducks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Second baseman Bridger Hunt tripled and scored on an error on shortstop Iggy Suarez on a fielder's choice.
The Patriots took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Third baseman Jeff Nettles reached on a walk and later scored on an error on a fielder's choice that allowed right fielder Noah Hall to reach safely and advance to second. Second baseman Matt Hagen followed with an RBI double for the 2-1 lead.
Somerset added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Center fielder Wayne Lydon doubled and scored on an RBI single by first baseman Joe Burke for a 3-1 advantage.
Long Island took a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth inning after shortstop Matt Cavagnaro reached on an error, Hunt singled, and left fielder Robinson Cancel tripled to score both runners.
Cancel would come around to score on an RBI by third baseman Javier Colina that gave the Ducks the lead.
The Patriots scored in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game up 4-4.
Hall reached on a fielder's choice, Hagen doubled, and catcher J.R. Hopf singled to bring home Hall.
Somerset took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after Nettles doubled and scored on an RBI double by Hall for the 5-4 advantage.
The Ducks scored in the top of the seventh inning after Hunt singled, designated hitter Joey Gathright singled, and Hunt came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Cancel to make the score 5-5.
Long Island scored two runs in the top of eighth inning to take a 7-5 lead.
First baseman Matt Padgett singled, catcher Brendan Monaghan singled, and both runners scored after Hunt singled and advanced on a throwing error by Lydon.
Ducks reliever Ivan Maldonado picked up the win after tossing 1.1 scoreless innings and striking out two.
Patriots reliever Carlos Hines suffered the loss, allowing an earned run on three hits in an inning pitched.
Long Island closer Bill Simas got his third save of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
The Somerset Patriots 2010 Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Tuesday night with a 6:35 pm game against the Ducks. The game includes Cycling Night and Star Trek Night.
