Newark Bears News Release
(Lancaster, P.A., Sept. 13, 2010) - The Newark Bears defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 12-5 at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on Monday night,
Newark jumped on top early in the first inning off Josh Hall. Back-to-back errors found Kennard Jones on second base followed by a Brian Barton single and a three-run home run off the bat of Carl Everett to right and it was 3-0 Bears. Tim Raines Jr. drew a two-out walk in the second and came around to score on a misplayed grounder off the bat of Jones to push the lead to four runs.
Blacksher was the story for the Bears as he scattered just five hits over his first seven frames and retired eight straight at one point. Aaron Herr's solo home run in the second and a Bryant Nelson homer in the sixth were the only runs the Sulphur, Louisiana native allowed over the same span, while collecting four strikeouts.
The Bears added some insurance runs in the seventh inning as they sent 10 batters to the plate and drove Hall from the game. Barton ripped a two-run double followed by an Eric Munson sactifice fly and a Manny Mejia RBI single to make it a 9-2 game. Nine more batters stepped up in the eighth inning to bring home three more runs on four more hits, including RBI singles by Barton, who finished the day 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBI, and Munson, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, and the lead grew to ten runs. Lancaster added three runs over the final two innings, but it was too little too late.
Blacksher (2-5) got the win, surrendering five runs on nine hits, with four strikeouts in the Bears' third complete game of the season. Hall (13-6) took the loss, tossing six and two-third innings, allowing nine runs, six earned, on seven hits, with six walks and two strikeouts.
