
Ducks Drop Road Finale, 10-4, Split Series in Richmond

Akron RubberDucks News Release
The Richmond Flying Squirrels scored three runs each in the second and third innings and rolled to a 10-4 win over the Akron RubberDucks in the finale of a six-game series at The Diamond Sunday night. Akron enters the final series of the year with a one-game lead over Somerset (69-44) for the league's best record and a playoff magic number of five.
Turning Point
In the second inning, Akron left-hander Joey Cantillo walked catcher Andres Angulo with one out. Left-hander Skylar Arias made an errant pickoff throw that moved Angulo to third base. With two outs, Arias walked two batters and allowed a two-run single by third baseman David Villar and RBI double by first baseman Frankie Tostado for a 3-0 Richmond lead.
Mound Presence
In his first Double-A start, Cantillo pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing an earned run on a hit, three walks and three strikeouts. Arias entered and allowed two earned runs on two hits and two walks while recording one out. Left-hander Ben Krauth pitched one inning, yielding three earned runs. Right-hander Manuel Alvarez worked two innings, allowing three earned runs. Right-hander Aaron Pinto allowed Tostado's fifth-inning home run in one-third of an inning. Right-hander Nick Mikolajchak pitched two perfect innings, and Clark Scolamiero made his professional pitching debut with a perfect eighth inning - the first pitching appearance by a RubberDucks position player this season.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks scored a run in the fourth inning. Trailing 6-0, second baseman José Fermín hit a one-out double and scored on center fielder George Valera's RBI single. In the sixth, left fielder Will Brennan was hit by a pitch, Fermín singled, Valera hit a sacrifice fly, and first baseman Ike Freeman hit an RBI single to cut it to 10-3. Fermín added an RBI single in the seventh inning to make it 10-4. Fermín and shortstop Brayan Rocchio each had three-hit games for Akron.
Notebook
Rocchio hit safely in every game of the series and was 10-for-27 in Richmond...Brennan's eight-game hitting streak ended...Akron leads Somerset by one game, Bowie by two games and Portland by 4.5 games with one series remaining.
