CHICAGO, IL - Zdenek Blatny's goal 2:20 into the third period proved to be the difference, as the Chicago Wolves defeated the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, 3-2, in the decisive game of a Western Conference Qualifying playoff series Thursday at Allstate Arena.
Joe DiPenta and Kamil Piros also scored for Chicago, which won the best-of-three series 2-1 and moves on to the Western Conference Quarterfinals against the Grand Rapids Griffins. Rob Brown added a pair of assists.
Frederic Cassivi stopped 32 shots, including 21 over the final two periods, en route to the victory.
Aris Brimanis and Travis Brigley scored for the Ducks, who opened the series with a 3-2 win Tuesday.
Jason Elliott, assigned earlier in the day by the Detroit Red Wings, turned aside 27 of the 30 shots he faced in the losing effort.
