Dubuque Blows Past Des Moines, 7-3

The Dubuque Fighting Saints used a four-goal third period to roar past the Des Moines Buccaneers on Friday night. The Saints received points from 10 players en route to their fourth win of the season over the Bucs. Dubuque has now beaten Des Moines by three or more in the last two meetings between the teams. Mark Cheremeta led the way once again with three points and has seven in the season series against the Bucs.

-Dubuque got off to a near-perfect start as they grabbed goals from Cheremeta and Michael Feenstra in the first 3:45 of regulation. The rest of the period went by without incident, but the Saints kept Des Moines at bay offensively.

-Cheremeta's three-point game was his fifth of the season for the Fighting Saints. He now has 35 points in 34 games this season for the Saints.

-Michael Feenstra grabbed just his second two-point game in the USHL with a goal and an assist on Friday night. Both of Feenstra's points helped kick start the Fighting Saints offense in the first period.

-Matthew Kopperud, Ty Jackson, Dylan Jackson and Antonio Venuto all recorded multi-point games as well for the Saints. Dubuque's depth continues to shine through, and the offensive numbers have been off the charts over the last two months.

-With the two-point night, Ty Jackson now leads the USHL with 44 points. Ty is riding a six-game point streak, giving him four streaks of at least four-games this season.

-Aidan McCarthy had a nice bounce back start for the Saints as he was able to stymie Des Moines for the first two periods of play. The Bucs grabbed a few in the third, but by then the game was out of reach. McCarthy improved to 8-5-1 on the year.

-Despite the Des Moines loss, Alex Laferierre was a bright spot for the Bucs. Laferriere had two goals for Des Moines and an assist as well. He hopped into the team lead in points with the three-point effort.

-After being swept in the season series against Des Moines last year, Dubuque has put together a nice bounce back effort this season. With four games remaining against the Bucs, Dubuque can, at worst, split the season series.

-Next up for the Saints are the Madison Capitols who were defeated 4-0 by Chicago on Friday. Dubuque is 2-0 this season against Madison, but haven't faced the Caps since October 5th.
