Norfolk Tides News Release
July 23, 2007 - Virginia Beach native Jason Dubois drilled a two-out bases clearing double in the bottom of the 5th inning, lifting the Tides to an 8-5 win over the Columbus Clippers Monday night.
With the score tied 3-3 in the 5th, Dubois lined a sharp double into center field off of Clippers' starter Brandon Claussen (1-1), clearing the bases and giving Norfolk the lead. Dubois finished 3-for-3 with a walk in the contest, helping the Tides finish their homestand with five wins in eight games.
Mike Cervenak had three runs driven in on the night, while Luis Montanez singled twice and drove in a run. Cesar Crespo and Bo Hart each added two hits apiece for Norfolk, which is now 11-4 in its last 15 games.
Tides starter Craig Anderson (4-2) picked up his third straight win in a Norfolk uniform, allowing three runs on six hits while walking two and striking out four in 7.0 innings of work. The southpaw is now 3-0 with a 1.40 ERA in his last four starts, having walked six and struck out 17 over that strech.
Tim Kester relieved Anderson and pitched a scoreless 8th inning, but Tides' closer ran into trouble in the ninth as Columbus rallied. Juan Brito lined a two-run double off of Doyne, who was pulled two batters later with the bases loaded and two out. Francis Beltran came on and retired pinch-hitter George Lombard on a soft liner to short, earning the save, his first since August 14, 2004.
Columbus catcher Juan Brito had two hits and two runs driven in to lead the Clippers' offense, while Michael Restovich and Larry Broadway each added a hit and an RBI. The Tides head to Durham on Tuesday for a four-game set with the Bulls, with first pitch slated for 7:00. Tim Kester (7-3, 3.38) will take the hill for the Tides against Durham right-hander Tony Peguero (1-3, 8.03).
