Indians Launch Three Homers in Win

INDIANAPOLIS -- Left-hander Micheal Tejera scattered six hits over seven innings, while third baseman Russ Johson, designated hitter Michael Tejera and left fielder Chris Aguila each blasted home runs in a 7-4 win over Durham in front of 9,481 Monday night at Victory Field.

The Indians improve to 51-50 overall and 30-24 at home, while the Bulls fall to 54-48 on the season and 26-24 on the road. Indianapolis now trails Buffalo (55-45) by 4.5 games in the International League's Wild Card race.

Tejera (7.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO) earned earned his first win in over a month, improving to 4-2. The last time he earned a "W" was June 2 against Charlotte when he pitched four scoreless innings. Tejera was coming off his longest outing of the season (7.2 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO) on July 18 vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The Tribe cracked the scoreboard with three runs in the second. 1B Brad Eldred (1-for-4, 1 R) roped a base knock to center before 3B Russ Johnson (1-for-4, 1 R, 2 RBI) clobbered his sixth dinger of the year -- a shot to left. CF Luis Matos (1-for-2, 2 R) then drew a free pass and eventually scored on C Carlos Maldonado's (2-for-4, 2 RBI) single to left.

Indianapolis added a run in the fourth when Matos led off with a single to right, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and came plateward on Maldonado's base knock to center.

Durham trimmed the deficit in the fifth when 2B Elliot Johson (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) and C Josh Johnson (1-for-3, 1 R, 1 RBI) crushed back-to-back homers, making it 5-2.

The Indians padded their advantage with two runs in the sixth and one in the eighth. DH Michael Ryan (2-for-3, 1 R, 2 RBI) highlighted the sixth with his 10th roundtripper of the season -- a two-run bomb to left -- before LF Chris Aguila (2-for-3, 1 R, 1 RBI) belted his third long ball of 2007 -- a solo-shot to left -- in the eighth.

The Bulls scored their final two runs of the contest in the ninth when CF Jeremy Owens led off with a double to left and eventually crossed the plate on J. Johnson's groundout to third. SS Ben Zobrist (1-for-5, 1 R, 1 RBI) followed with his seventh home run of the season over the right field wall.

Durham RHP Mitch Talbot (4.0 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO) suffered the loss, falling to 7-8.

The Tribe is now 23-0 when scoring at least seven runs and 35-8 when recording at least 10 base knocks.

Indianapolis opens a four-game road trip at Columbus on Tuesday 7:05 p.m. RHP Marty McLeary is expected to take the hill for the Indians, while RHP Emiliano Fruto is scheduled to get the nod for the Clippers.
