Joliet Slammers News Release
JOLIET, IL - As game two got underway under cloudy skies, Logan Dubbe took to the bump for Joliet. The righty was looking to tally up another win for his fourth start this season, with a win tonight putting Dubbe at 2-1 on starts for the Slammers. Dubbe was the winning pitcher against the Boomers in his Slammers debut on the 26th of June. On the shoulders of Dubbe, the Slammers shut out the Boomers to break their six game losing streak.
The Slammers struck for the first and only runs of the game with a huge two run long ball by Lane Baremore in the bottom of the second inning. Baremore's bomb would be his first of the season bringing the score to 2-0. Jackson Dvorak would score on the homer after getting on base with a double to right center field.
Tonight's game was a true pitchers' duel as the low score was held by solid pitching from Boomers lefty Andrew Dean and Slammers starter Logan Dubbe. Dubbe would stay on the hill until the top of the eighth inning as Joliet called on Brad VanAsdlen to relieve Dubbe. While on the mound Dubbe would face a total of 26 batters and hold the Boomers scoreless with 8 strikeouts. The Slammers defense showed their A-game tonight as only seven runners reached base, five of them being hits.
A huge defensive play saved the Slammers in the top of the eight as Schaumburg had the tying runs in scoring position, but a 6-3 play by Tyler Depreta-Johnson stopped the runs from scoring for the final out of the inning.
The Boomers bullpen would be put to the test as Thomas Nicoll would relieve Andrew Dean in the bottom of the eighth inning. Dean would face 24 of the Slammers' finest and acquire four strikeouts in the process.
After VanAsdlen held Schaumburg in the eighth, Trevor Charpie came to the hill with a save insight. The righty had 8 saves before tonight's appearance with 26 innings pitched. Charpie tossed a 1-2-3 inning with some solid defense to aid in the save.
Save number eight for Charpie and win number two for Dubbe would break the six game losing streak for the Slammers and put their season record at 15-27. Join us for the next home game on Thursday, July 14th at 7:05.
