Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Behind an outstanding start from Jalen Beeks and a 12-hit night offensively, the Greenville Drive rolled to a 6-2 victory over the Lexington Legends on Saturday night at Fluor Field.
Beeks extended his team-leading victory total to nine after holding the Legends (14-18, 45-57) to one run on six hits and one walk over seven innings with three strikeouts.
The Drive (16-19, 54-51) offense had four players with multi-hit games. Yoan Moncada went 3-5 to lead the way, while David Sopilka had two hits and two RBI. Javier Guerra and Francisco Tellez added two hits apiece.
Lexington scored their only run of the night against Beeks in the top of the second when Wander Franco singled, moved to second on a single from Brandon Downes, and came in to score on yet another single, this one by Alexis Rivera.
The Drive never trailed again in the game, as they tied things up in the bottom half when Sopilka's RBI single off Foster Griffin (0-5) plated Guerra, who singled to begin the inning.
In the third, Mike Meyers laced a triple to the right-field corner with one out, and Guerra followed with an RBI single to left to put the Drive ahead 2-1.
A four-run sixth inning against Legends reliever Torey Deshazier gave Greenville some cushion to their lead. Tellez began the frame with a double and later scored on a passed ball. Sopilka added his second RBI single of the night to score Bryan Hudson, who walked, and Rafael Devers capped the inning with a two-run double to the right field wall.
The Legends plated a run in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Corey Toups.
Franco had three hits to lead the way for Lexington, while Rivera and Luis Valenzuela added two hits.
Sunday's series finale at Fluor Field begins at 4:05 PM. The Drive will send RH Jeffry Fernandez (3-8, 5.86) to the mound looking for a victory in the four-game series, while Lexington's starter is LH Colin Rodgers (3-7, 4.33).
