Savannah Sand Gnats News Release
Savannah, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats won their sixth straight game in shutout fashion against the Asheville Tourists Saturday night at Historic Grayson Stadium, 3-0. The Sand Gnats now have eight shutouts this season.
The Gnats (18-16/57-47) led off the bottom of the second with three straight singles from DH Tomas Nido, catcher Tyler Moore, and third baseman JC Rodriguez. Left fielder Joe Tuschak and center fielder Patrick Biondi both brought runs home to give the Gnats a 2-0 lead and keep the bases loaded. Moore reached on an error and scored in the third to push the lead to three.
The Tourists (20-14/52-52) were baffled by Gnats' starter Casey Delgado (5-3), who allowed just two hits in his seven innings of work. Asheville never had a hitter reach third on the night.
Savannah relievers Alberto Baldonado and Cameron Griffin each tossed one scoreless inning to cap of the Gnats' eighth shutout of the year. Griffin earned his sixth save the season.
The Sand Gnats and Asheville Tourists will conclude their four-game series tomorrow at 2:05pm. The Gnats will send RHP Martires Arias (5-4, 2.70) to the mound, while the Tourists starter is to be determined. Sunday will feature Bark in the Park sponsored by TailsSpin and Kids Run the Bases after the game presented by Papa Murphy's. All kids 12 years and under will receive a voucher for one free hot dog and small soda.
