Greenville Drive News Release
Hickory, NC - The Greenville Drive were held in check by the Hickory Crawdads Saturday night as they did not score a run until there was one out in the top of the ninth in their 3-1 loss at L.P. Frans Stadium. It could have been the âDads first shutout of the season at home had it not been for Chris Turner's league-leading 16th home run of the season.
The âDads struck first in the bottom of the third inning against Greenville starter Mike Bowden. With one out John Santiago singled. He moved to second on a passed ball and scored on Eddie Prasch's single to give Hickory a 1-0 lead.
With two outs in the fourth inning Hickory extended the lead to 2-0 on RF Brad Corley's eighth homer of the season. Crawdad Brent Lillibridge's solo shot off of reliever Kyle Fernandes in the bottom of the eighth gave Hickory a 3-0 lead and put them within three outs of the first home shutout, and second team shutout of the season.
With one out in the top of the ninth Greenville LF Chris Turner hit his league leading 16th homer of the season to make it 3-1. It also marked the third straight night in which Turner belted a homer. Crawdad reliever Justin Vaclavik got back-to-back strikeouts to end the game.
Bowden (4-4) received his fourth loss of the season as he surrendered two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks, while striking out five in 5.0 innings.
