Braves defeat the RiverDogs to split series

The Braves got things started in the bottom of the first inning when Quentin Davis and Elvis Andrus drew consecutive walks. Cody Clark was later hit by a pitch to move Davis to third and Andrus to second. Jamie Romak then drove a single to left field to score both Davis and Andrus and give Rome the 2-0 edge. In the second inning, the Braves added two unearned runs on Charleston throwing errors to double their lead to 4-0. The RiverDogs got on the board in the third inning when Jose Tabata hit a RBI single to left to make the score 4-1. In the bottom of the third, Cody Clrk was hit by a pitch and later advanced to second on a Manny Rodriguez line drive single to center. Jose Camarena got a base hit to score Clark and move Rodriguez to second. Rodriguez reached third on a wild pitch and crossed home plate on a Jordan Schafer groundout to extend Rome's lead to 6-1. The Braves rallied in the fourth inning when Eric Campbell smacked a double to left and then scored on a Clark single. Romak then shot a two-run homer over the center field fence to give Rome a commanding 9-1 advantage. The RiverDogs scored two runs in the fifth, highlighted by a Jackson bunt and a Ben Jones homerun to make the score 9-3. In the eighth inning, Rome put Charleston away by scoring three more runs. Robert Marcial singled to left, advanced to second on a Josh Morris walk, and then scored on a Manny Rodriguez single. Romak then smacked a 2 RBI single to right to give Rome the 12-3 victory. Romak had six RBI on the day, tying a Rome Braves record.

Rome starter Beau Jones earned the win (4-2) after pitching six innings, giving up just six hits, and striking out five. Brave reliever Jose Santiago allowed just one hit in three innings to earn his first save of the season, while Abel Gomez was the loser for Charleston.

The Braves will be in Savannah for a four game away series starting tomorrow night, and then they will head to Charleston to battle the RiverDogs in another four game series. They return to Rome on July 4th to play Savannah.
