Greenville Drive News Release
Lakewood, NJ - The South Atlantic League's best hitting team got back on track Saturday night, as the Drive (49-44, 9-14) tallied 10 hits in their 5-1 victory over the Lakewood BlueClaws (52-41, 14-9) at FirstEnergy Park.
The Drive took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second, as the first three batters all recorded a hit off Lakewood starter Julian Sampson (5-3). Ty Weeden began the hit parade with a double and scored as David Mailman followed with an RBI-triple. Oscar Tejeda would knock in Mailman with a single, and later scored when Ryan Kalish reached on an error.
With the Drive experiencing a bit of a power outage over the last six games, having not hit a home run over that span, Mike Jones put an end to that with the first of his two solo homers in the top of the third. The All-Star first baseman added his second two innings later, his seventh of the year.
On the mound, Chad Povich (6-3) turned his best performance since switching roles from reliever to starter on June 14th, tossing six scoreless innings. The right-hander allowed three hits and two walks, while fanning five and retired the last seven batters he faced.
Foster picked up where Povich left off, sitting down the first six BlueClaws that stepped up to the plate before allowing the first three batters in the ninth reach base.
The BlueClaws managed just one run with the bases jammed and nobody out as Javier Garcia retired all three batters he faced. T.J. Warren broke up the potential shutout with an RBI-groundout.
The Drive and BlueClaws continue their four-game series tomorrow with first pitch set for 5:05 PM at FirstEnergy Park. Greenville will send right-hander Ryne Lawson to the hill as Lakewood counters with lefty Jacob Diekman.
The Drive return home to Fluor Field on Wednesday, July 16th when the began an eight-game homestand with the Lake County Captains, affiliate of the Cleveland Indians.
