
Jackets Snap Losing Streak with 15 Inning Win

Salisbury, MD - The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 15-8) snapped their four game losing streak with a 6-5 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds (49-41, 12-11) in 15 innings on Saturday night. Thomas Neal broke the 5-5 tie in the 15th inning and Ryan Paul recorded the win working three scoreless innings.
Shane Jordan led off the 15th with a single then stole second base with two outs in the frame. Neal followed with a double to the gap in left center field scoring Jordan.
Paul (2-2) allowed just one hit, three walks and struck out five.
Waldis Joaquin worked the final inning for his second save of the season allowing a walk and striking out two.
The GreenJackets tied the game at 5-5 in the ninth inning with two outs when Charlie Culberson scored from third base on a throwing error from Shorebirds second baseman Ryan Adams.
Delmarva jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning on a three run homer from Kieron Pope off starter Gib Hobson.
The Shorebirds added a single run in the third inning on a two-out RBI double from Matt Tucker.
Hobson got the no decision allowing four runs on seven hits over 2.1 innings worked. Hobson did not walk a batter and struck out two.
Augusta began the comeback in the sixth inning when Neal connected for an RBI single breaking up the shutout.
Nestor Rojas then had an RBI sac fly to right trimming the lead to two in the seventh inning and Augusta got a pair of runs in the eighth to tie game on an RBI single from Neal and an RBI ground out from Andrew Davis.
The Shorebirds reclaimed the lead briefly in the eighth inning on a two out RBI single from Pedro Florimon taking a 5-4 lead into the ninth.
The GreenJackets and Shorebirds continue their series Sunday with Augusta sending right-hander Chance Corgan (2-2, 2.22) to the mound. Delmarva counters with right-hander Luis Noel (8-4, 3.19). First pitch on Sunday is at 5:05 p.m.
