Hagerstown Suns News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - After back-to-back games in which the Hagerstown Suns (10-13) led, only to see the lead slip away in the late innings, the Suns were shut down by the Hickory Crawdads (10-13) on Saturday by a score of 4-1, their fifth consecutive loss.

Suns starter Cole Kimball (3-6) threw well for Hagerstown, pitching five innings and striking out four hitters while allowing just two runs, though he was credited with the loss. Kimball's replacement Jamie Lehman also was effective, as he tossed two scoreless innings of relief.

The problem on the day, however, was the ineffectiveness of the Hagerstown offense against Hickory starter Brad Lincoln. The right-hander, rated as the fourth best prospect in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, shut out the Suns over six and two thirds innings of work. He also struck out seven hitters while allowing just four hits and two walks to earn his fifth win of the season.

Hagerstown managed just six hits in the game, and second baseman Jake Rogers had three of them.

The Suns lone run came in the bottom of the eighth inning, as Jose Lozada came around to score on a Tim Pahuta double.

Hickory scored single runs in the first and fourth off Kimball, and added two more in the top of the eighth inning off reliever Dan Leatherman.

Tom Boleska pitched the final two and one third innings in relief for the Crawdads, earning his fifth save of the season.

The game was played in front of the largest crowd of the season as 4,837 fans attended the contest at Municipal Stadium.
