Greenville Drive News Release
On a beautiful Tuesday afternoon, Fluor Field was home to businessmen and women from all over Greenville for the Drive Business Downtown game. Unfortunately for them, the Greenville Drive (7-12) couldn't get any offense going, as they were held to two hits in a 4-0 loss to the visiting Lakewood BlueClaws (6-13).
Lakewood scored the only three runs they would need in the top of the third against Drive starter Pat Light (1-1). William Carmona walked with one out and advanced to second on an infield single from Chace Numata. After a flyout, Angelo Mora singled to center field to bring home Carmona, and he advanced to second on a throwing error by Jose Colorado. Larry Greene Jr. then followed with a single through the right side to plate Numata and Mora, extending the lead to 3-0.
The 3-0 lead was more than enough for BlueClaws starter and former Clemson pitcher Kevin Brady (1-2). Despite struggling with his control and allowing five walks in five innings, Brady did not allow a hit or a run while striking out five Drive hitters. Nicholas Hanson and Delvi Francisco hurled the final four innings to preserve the shutout.
Lakewood added an insurance run in the top of the ninth against Kyle Kraus, as Mitch Walding singled with one out, moved up to second on a groundout and came around to score on Carmona's single up the middle.
Mora had three hits for Lakewood, while Greene drove in a pair. Aneury Tavarez and Jordan Weems picked up the only hits on the afternoon for Greenville.
Game two of the three-game set between these two teams is Wednesday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05. RHP Frank Montas (0-2, 7.50) will take the mound for the Drive, while RHP Miguel Nunez (1-0, 3.38) gets the ball for the BlueClaws.
