Hickory Crawdads News Release
HICKORY, NC - The Hickory Crawdads were literally perfect in the second week of the season, sweeping a series in Asheville before taking all four games at home against Charleston en route to a 7-game win streak.
The rise from 4-7 to 11-7 catapulted the 'Dads into a first place tie with the Delmarva Shorebirds for first place in the South Atlantic League's North Division.

Hickory Boasts 3 Player of the Week Awards Through 15 Games
With just two weeks completed in the 2013 SAL schedule, the Hickory Crawdads already boast three players with Player of the Week Awards.
Tyler Smith kicked things off by taking home the POW award in Week 1 after posting a 2-0 record and a 0.00 ERA. The 2012 19th Round Selection tossed 9.1 innings while allowing just one unearned run on four hits and 8 strikeouts.
Week Two saw the 'Dads win both the Pitcher and Hitter of the Week awards with Alexander Claudio and Nick Williams accepting the hardware.
Claudio posted a 2-0 record and a 0.00 ERA after throwing 7 shutout innings on just one hit and 11 Ks. Williams, meanwhile, hit .419 with 4 HR, 10 RBI and 8 R.
Player and Team Notes
-The 'Dads 7-game win streak is just 3 off the all-time record of 10 set back in 2007.
- Hickory's 28 HR are tops in the SAL, with second place West Virginia having only 17
- The 'Dads also lead the SAL with a .453 team slugging percentage and 268 total bases
-The Crawdads 101 runs scored are second in the SAL
-Hickory's pitching staff ranks third in the league with 159 Ks
- Nick Williams (7) and Joey Gallo (6) rank first and second in the SAL in home runs.
-2B Ryan Rua leads the league with 12 extra base hits and ranks second with 8 doubles
- C Jorge Alfaro (12) and OF Jordan Akins (10) both had double digit hit streaks come to an end this week.
- 3B Joey Gallo, 1B Joe Maloney, OF Nick Williams and 2B Ryan Rua all had multi-home run games this week.
'DADS ON THE ROAD: The Crawdads hit the road for the next week with a three-game series in Greensboro followed by a 4-game set in Hagerstown. All road and home games can be heard this year on 1490 AM WSVM, hickorycrawdads.com, crawdadsradio.com and the Tune In Radio smartphone app.
The 'Dads will return home on Wednesday, April 1st for the start of a 7-game home stand against Asheville and Savannah.
