PREVIEW: The Shorebirds hit the road for seven games to Savannah and Greenville. The Shorebirds are tied for first place in the Northern Division with the Hickory Crawdads (Rangers). The Shorebirds went 5-2 on their first road trip to Hagerstown and Kannapolis. Tonight marks their first meeting against a team in the Southern Division.
TOP OFFENSE IN SAL: The Shorebirds offense is batting .289, the best in the South Atlantic League. The second best offense is batting 8 points lower than the Shorebirds (West Virginia, .281). The Shorebirds also rank second in the league in hits (176) and third in on-base percentage (.357).
4TH IN SAL: Creede Simpson ranks fourth in the SAL in batting average at .383. Brandon Nimmo of Savannah leads the league with a .424 average. Simpson has five multi-hit games in his last nine. He has recorded at least one RBI in 11 of 14 games played. Simpson ranks tied for third in the SAL in RBIs (16) and fifth in slugging percentage (.638). Simpson leads all Orioles minor leaguers in batting average.
11 of 18: The Shorebirds offense has recorded ten or more hits in 11 of 18 games this season. They notched a season high 15 hits on Sunday in the finale against Greensboro.
MULTI-HIT WALKER: Christian Walker has eight multi-hit games in 17 played. He went 3-for-4 in his last game to increase his average to .377, seventh in the South Atlantic League. Walker also ranks third in the SAL in on-base percentage (.458). Walker takes a 16-game on-base streak into game one against Savannah.
4TH IN ERA: The Shorebirds pitching staff ranks fourth in the South Atlantic League with a staff ERA of 3.45. The staff has given up the fewest home runs in the SAL (2).
