Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Behind a four-run fifth inning, the Augusta GreenJackets defeated the Greenville Drive 5-2 on Saturday night at Fluor Field.
The Drive (10-31) took a 2-0 lead into the frame, and starter Jhonathan Diaz (1-3) retired the first 13 hitters he faced, but the game turned quickly. Manuel Geraldo singled to end Diaz's streak, and another single and a hit batter loaded the bases. A wild pitch brought home the first run, and Rob Calabrese doubled home a pair to put the GreenJackets (26-14) ahead. Nick Hill followed with a run-scoring single to extend the lead.
Despite taking the loss, Diaz matched a career-high with nine strikeouts over six innings while only issuing one walk.
Lorenzo Cedrola began the bottom of the first with a triple for the Drive, and he came home on a wild pitch following a brief rain delay to put Greenville up.
After a Victor Acosta double began the fourth, Marino Campana followed with an RBI triple into the right field corner, making the score 2-0 in favor of the Drive.
Augusta added an insurance run on the ninth when Geraldo smacked a solo homer to left-center.
Garrett Cave (2-1) got the win for the GreenJackets after striking out seven in five innings and giving up two runs.
Acosta, Campana and Cedrola all collected two hits for the Drive.
The series concludes on Sunday afternoon with a 4:05 first pitch at Fluor Field. The Drive will start right-hander Alex Scherff (0-3, 6.91) in the finale, and he will be opposed by GreenJackets left-hander John Gavin (2-1, 1.38).
