Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Kannapolis Intimidators (26-14) took the second game of the four-game series, 3-2, in walk off fashion against the Hickory Crawdads (14-23), as Carlos Rodon enjoyed a three hit, six strikeout performance through five innings in his first rehab start since receiving shoulder surgery almost eight months ago.

After intentionally walking two batters in a row to create a bases loaded situation for Nolan Brown, the Hickory reliver, Joe Barlow (L, 0-1), threw a wild pitch that scurried all the way to the backstop, scoring Luis Gonzalez to walk it off for Kannapolis.

Rodon looked sharp in the first inning for the Intimidators, striking out two batters, mixing in his slider, changeup and fastball, with his fastball topping out at 93 mph.

In the third, the former Wolfpack southpaw struck out Sam Huff and Kole Enright to earn his third consecutive three-up, three-down frame, sitting at 38 pitches through three innings. One inning later, Rodon let up his first hit of the ball game after Franklin Rollin hit a line drive down the left field line but was thrown out at third trying to stretch a double into a triple.

In the fifth inning with two outs, Yohel Pozo ripped a double down the third base line off Rodon, followed by a bloop-single into right field from Huff, bringing in the first run of the game. Rodon finished the inning by striking out Enright for strikeout number six.

The Intimidators jumped on the board in the seventh inning after an RBI single into left field that brought home Evan Skoug, who reached on an infield single, tying the game, 1-1.

The score remained the same after solid work out of the bullpen from Yosmer Solorzano, sitting down all nine batters he faced, including three strikeouts. Tyler Johnson (W, 2-0) also came in

After a runner was placed at second base for Hickory in the tenth, Tyler Ratliff smacked an RBI double to left-center field, giving the 'Dads a 2-1 advantage. In the bottom of the tenth, the Intimidators took care of business after Gonzalez brought in Johan Cruz from second base to tie the game, setting up the walk-off wild pitch.

Kannapolis and Hickory will play a double header on Sunday starting at 2:30, with the second game starting 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first.
