Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - It was a beautiful night to play two at Fluor Field on Friday, and 5,676 fans were on hand to watch the Greenville Drive (9-7) and Asheville Tourists (7-9) each come away with one victory on the day. The Drive did a little of everything well in a 5-2 win in the opener, while Asheville pitching stymied the Drive offense in the nightcap to earn a 3-0 win.
The Drive jumped out to an early start offensively in game one, knocking nine hits against Tourists starter Ryan Castellani (0-1) in three innings of work.
Mauricio Dubon singled with one out in the first and later scored on a Jordan Procyshen RBI groundout, while RBI singles by Derek Miller and Dubon in the second inning stretched the lead to 3-0.
The early runs made a victor out of Reed Reilly (1-1), who gave the Drive a terrific effort in his first start of the season. He allowed just five hits and two runs in five and two-third innings with no walks and three strikeouts.
Asheville scored both of their runs in the sixth inning on RBI groundouts from Emerson Jimenez and Drew Weeks, but Kuehl McEachern entered the game and recorded the final four outs to earn his first save of the year.
An RBI double from Mike Meyers and a fielder's choice RBI from Dubon provided the Drive with insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Dubon had two hits and two RBIs for the Drive in the opener, while Rafael Devers, Nick Longhi and Joseph Monge added two hits apiece. Wes Rogers had two hits for Asheville.
Tourists pitching was the story of the second game, as Logan Sawyer (2-1), Blake Shouse and Jerad McCrummen combined for a two-hit shutout. Sawyer allowed only one hit in five innings with four strikeouts, and McCrummen collected his second save with a scoreless seventh.
Sean Dwyer hit an RBI single off Jeffry Fernandez (0-2) in the second, and Randy Reyes added a sacrifice fly in the third. Kevin Padlo wrapped up the scoring in the sixth inning with a solo homer to left-center.
The division rivals will square off once again on Saturday night at Fluor Field, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. RH Michael Kopech (0-1, 3.12) takes the ball for the Drive, and the Tourists will send RH Carlos Polanco (0-2, 6.75) to the mound.
