Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
SALISBURY, Md. -- Powered by a three-run home run by Jamill Moquete and a stout bullpen performance, the Delmarva Shorebirds extended their winning streak to four games with a 4-3 victory over the Greensboro Grasshoppers at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Friday night in front of 5,004 fans.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Delmarva got a rally going when Conor Bierfeldt and Jomar Reyes connected on back-to-back singles. Moquete then followed by launching a three-run home run over the left field fence to give the Shorebirds their first lead of the game. The dinger was Moquete's second of the year, and the first home run by a Delmarva player at home during the 2015 season.
The middle of the Shorebirds order was the driving force behind the offense all night, as Moquete and Bierfeldt each had two hits while Reyes went 3-for-4 to push his average on the season up to .346.
The Grasshoppers quickly responded by tying the game in the top of the fifth on a sac fly from Arturo Rodriguez off of reliever Dariel Delgado. Delgado then rebounded by retiring six of the last seven batters he faced.
The Shorebirds took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth on an odd play, as Bierfeld scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch that allowed Riley Palmer to reach base following a strikeout.
Stefan Crichton then took the mound and kept any Greensboro rallies from materializing. He allowed just one baserunner in 2.2 innings to earn his first save of the season.
John Means returned to the rotation and tossed four innings as the starter, allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out one batter.
Delmarva will look to extend its winning streak to five games on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Bennett Parry will take to the bump for the Shorebirds opposite Michael Mader on Scout/Fireworks night presented by Dr Susan Vickers at Seaside Smiles.
