Drake Deals Keys to 6-4 Win
August 23, 2010 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release
If it would have been a hockey game it would not have been hard to tell who the three stars were tonight. RHP Oliver Drake allowed two hits through 6 and 2/3rd's innings, 1B Buck Britton finished a double shy of the cycle and RF Ronnie Welty drove home four runs in a 6-4 victory over Kinston at Grainger Stadium Monday night.
Drake allowed a solo home run off of the bat of Indians DH Chun Chen to lead off the second inning and did not look back as Kinston did not register another hit until the seventh inning. With the win Drake has been the victor in three of his last four starts moving to 5-6 on the season.
Britton provided some of the pop homering over the right field wall in the fourth inning to give the Keys a 2-1 lead. In his next at-bat, Britton led off the sixth inning with a triple down the right field line opening the door to a four-run inning.
That inning was highlighted by Welty's two-out three-run home run that distanced the Keys from Kinston putting Frederick atop 6-1. For Welty it was his 15th home run of the year and the four-RBI night put him atop the 70-RBI mark at 72 for the first time in his career.
Kinston rallied late scoring twice in the ninth and getting runners to first and second base with two down trailing by two runs, but LHP Brett Bordes enticed a groundball out to end the contest in the Keys favor, 6-4.
The series continues tomorrow at the Keys look to move back to the .500 mark in the second half. RHP Zach Clark will make the start for Frederick with first pitch set for 7:00 p.m. Coverage will begin 20 minutes earlier on The Keys Baseball Network.
Frederick Keys Playoff Tickets are available now with Game One set for Wednesday September 8th at Harry Grove Stadium. For tickets contact the Keys Box Offices at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
