THE HILLCATS: Yesterday Lynchburg lost 8-2 to Wilmington in the series finale of a three-game set at Frawley Stadium...The Hillcats have still won eight of their last 11 games and over a longer stretch they are 12-5 in their last 17 games...Tonight is the first game of a four-game series against Winston-Salem and the opening contest of a seven-game homestand...The Green & Gold starting the tail end of a stretch of 14 out of 17 games at City Stadium...Thus far they are 7-3 over this time...The Cats entered today four games back of Potomac for the final playoff spot in the Northern Division with 14 games left to play in the second half of the season...

VS. WINSTON-SALEM: Lynchburg is 2-10 against Winston-Salem this season...The Dash have three, three-game series sweeps of the Hillcats this year...Last season the Cats went 11-9 against the Dash...Lynchburg holds the all-time advantage in the series with Winston-Salem 158-152...The last time these two teams met the Green & Gold got the better of the Dash in two out of three games at BB&T Ballpark...

EARLY WORK: The Blue Rocks jumped out to a 7-0 lead yesterday afternoon through three innings of action...This after Lynchburg had outscored Wilmington 16-1 through the first two games of the three-game series...The 9-1 win Saturday night matched the biggest margin of victory the Hillcats have had this season...

FRIENDLY CONFINES AGAIN: The Hillcats went 5-2 on their recent seven-game homestand after entering the stretch 3-13 in their last 16 games at City Stadium...The Green & Gold are now 29-34 this season at Calvin Falwell Field...

HOME AWAY FROM HOME: By taking two out of three games in the series at Wilmington, Lynchburg has now won three straight road series...Over a longer stretch they are 13-9 in their last 22 road games...In the Hillcats last six road series they are now 5-1-1...

KNUCKLE PUCK: UTIL Cody Puckett hit his 17th homer yesterday to give him a long ball in four consecutive games heading into tonight...He is now one game shy of tying the record for the most consecutive games with a home run...In 2007 1B Steve Pearce hit a home run in five straight contests...On Saturday night Puckett had his third straight game with a double as well, which gave him 39 on the season, tying him for second on the single season all-time Hillcats list (Freddy Garcia, 1996 and Pat Magness, 2005)...He is now two short of tying the single season record (Ray Navarrette, 2002)...He is also six short of tying the all-time Lynchburg record (45, Scott Cooper, 1988)...Puckett is second in the CL in doubles, second in extra-base hits (60), fourth in home runs, fourth in total bases (216) and fourth in strikeouts (118)...

REACH FOR THE STARS: RHP Abe Woody made his Hillcats debut yesterday by working the bottom of the eighth inning and allowing one run...He pitched both before and after the 43 minute rain delay at Frawley Stadium...Woody was signed by the Reds on Saturday after he was released earlier this season by the Arizona Diamondbacks organization...He was originally drafted by the Reds in the 31st round of the 2005 draft out of Baylor University...He was traded to Arizona in 2006 for UTIL Jerry Gil...He began this season with Double-A Mobile and was 4-2 with a 3.71 ERA with five saves in 19 relief appearances with the BayBears...Yesterday was his first appearance at the High-A level since 2006 with the Sarasota Reds...

RICH AND FAMOUS: INF Chris Richburg went 1-for-4 yesterday and has now hit in six straight games...He has also hit in 21 out of his last 23 games, including an 11-game hitting streak over that time...In those 23 contest he is batting .380 (35-for-92) with nine doubles, four home runs, 22 RBI and 17 runs scored...

U-TURN: RHP Curtis Partch allowed just one run in a career-high eight innings of work and matched his season-high with seven strikeouts on Saturday night...The eight innings matched the longest start this season by a Hillcat...It was his fourth straight quality start and his fifth in his last six outings...In his last six starts the right-hander is 3-1 with a 2.43 ERA (10 earned run in 37 innings) to lower his ERA from 5.80 to 4.78...In his previous four starts he was 1-3 with a 13.50 ERA (25 earned runs in 16 and 1/3 innings)...In those four outings he has given up 42 hits in 16 and 1/3 innings...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Stephen Sauer was selected by the White Sox in the 10th round of the 2008 draft out of Arizona State University...In 2008 with the Sun Devils he went 4-1 with a 4.56 ERA and one save in 25 games (six starts)...He made his professional debut that same year with Rookie Great Falls and had a 3-2 mark with a 3.41 ERA and five saves in 19 games in relief...Last season he progressed to full season Low-A Kannapolis and had a 6-5 record with a 3.36 ERA in 28 games (22 starts)...This season with Winston-Salem he has made 23 starts and gone 7-9 with a 4.98 ERA for the Dash...In three starts against Lynchburg he is 2-0 with a 3.50 ERA (seven earned runs in 18 innings)...
