Frederick Keys News Release
Oliver Drake dominated the Wilmington Blue Rocks lineup on Monday night as the Keys defeated the Rocks, 2-0. Drake allowed just three hits in his first complete game of his professional career. On the wrong side of the pitchers' duel was RHP Elisaul Pimentel. Pimentel fell to 4-5 on the year despite not allowing an earned run over seven innings of work. With the win, Frederick improved to 6-0 against Wilmington at Harry Grove Stadium in 2011.
Offense was at a minimum on Monday evening as the first run of the game came on an infield single. LF Kipp Schutz led off the bottom of the second inning with an infield single. On the play, SS Rey Navarro's throw sailed into the Keys dugout on the first base line and Schutz was awarded second base on the throwing error. Schutz advanced to third on Adam Donachie fly out to right field and remained there when C Brian Ward came to the plate with two outs. Ward hit a slow, bouncing ball down the third base line. 3B Deivy Batista charged and fielded the grounder after it bounced off the bag at third. Batista quickly fired to first but Ward beat the throw. Schutz scored on the play as Frederick took a 1-0 lead on the unearned run.
The one-run advantage proved to be enough for Drake. In the fourth inning, Wilmington had its best chance to score against the Naval Academy product. Rey Navarro led off the inning with a double to right-center. A groundout by Nick Francis moved Navarro to third base as the potential tying run stood just 90-feet away. Unfazed, Drake struck out 1B John Whittleman looking and got CF Yem Prades to groundout to end the inning.
Following the fourth, Drake surrendered just one more hit en route to the complete game shutout. In his 11th start with the Keys this season, the Gardner, Mass native improved to 6-3 on the season and lowered his ERA to 2.48.
3B Dale Mollenhauer added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth when he belted his fourth home run of the season off RHP Bryan Paukovits.
The Keys will try to complete the three-game sweep of the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Tuesday night when they send LHP Nathan Moreau (7-5, 3.45). The Blue Rocks will counter with RHP Tim Melville (6-6, 4.50). If Frederick wins on Tuesday, Keys' manager, Orlando Gomez, will notch his 900th victory in his managerial career.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Harry Grove Stadium.
Tuesday night's are "Guaranteed Win" Tuesday in Frederick. If the Keys lose, your ticket stub is redeemable for any Monday-Thursday home game.
